The Four Fields is a framework for making disciples.
But first, let’s look at the farmer.
1. Entry: A field
2. Sows seed: Lots of it.
3. The seed falls on different types of ground
4. There is a harvest
5. Then we start all over again
Introducing the 4 Fields Kingdom Growth, Part 1
As disciples of Jesus, how do we go about reaching individuals who are far from God? I love the example we find in Mark 4:1-9, 26-29. Let’s read the passage and discuss what we find.
Here’s a note to consider: this is Jesus’ first parable, and in Mark 4:13, He says, “Unless we can understand this parable, we will not be able to understand any other.”
So, let’s dive in and see what we find…
Discussion on Mark 4:1-9:
- We have a farmer who enters a field.
- He starts sowing seed everywhere.
- He isn’t particular or concerned about where the seed lands; he needs to get as much seed as possible into the field.
- The seed falls on different types of ground:
- Road
- Rocky ground
- Among thorns
- Good soil
- There is a harvest of different amounts.
Mark 4:26-29:
- The kingdom of God is like a farmer casting seed.
- He doesn’t know how, but the seed begins to grow—little by little.
- When it’s ready, it gets harvested.
This is the work of God. The Gospel is God’s responsibility, but He uses you and me to sow the seed.

The four fields (five parts) are:
- Entry: Engaging people far from God
- Gospel: Sharing the Gospel with everyone you meet.
- Discipleship: Training new believers to become disciples who make disciples.
- The Church: Gathering disciples into simple, reproducible churches.
- Leadership Development: Multiplying leaders in the reproducible skills and process of the four fields.
