Why do I go onto the streets and worship
While worshipping with others one day, I had a sense that God was showing me that as we were worshipping, we were pushing back the darkness in the spiritual realm in the locality.
At the same time I felt God say go and worship on the streets of Shrewsbury.
I feel this is my main role when Ignite Ministries takes to the streets. Mike preaches using the sketch board. He and other members of the team speak to people and pray for them too
I am able to be lost in worship as I sing. I believe you can sense the atmosphere change as Jesus is worshipped and there is a lovely sense of the presence of God. I believe people may be affected by this presence, even if they aren’t sure what they are experiencing.
When my eyes are open, I do notice people sometimes stare at me, I am keen to smile at them and they smile back, somewhat surprised to see a warm smile maybe?
It is important to me that we are a good witness of the love of Jesus, including his kindness and his joy.
It isn’t really my thing to go and start a conversation with a stranger. If I do see someone has been really listening to Mike, I ask them, ‘what did you think of what he just said?’
This leads to interesting conversations and when I am curious, people seem to feel valued.
What I do love about worshipping and praying for people on the streets is it really feels like we’ve taken church to the people.
We can reach those who would not feel they want to enter a church building.
Including those who once did walk with Jesus, and whose relationship with him for whatever reason has been disrupted. As the presence of God has touched them, we have had several experiences of being approached by them asking for prayer.
